How to select the right funding status for your PhD advert

This guide provides a summary of the different PhD funding options and what they mean, for our different adverts on FindAPhD

For our all our FindAPhD opportunities, each has the required field for funding status/funding information – only one can be selected. Below you will see the funding status options for our FindAPhD products with its definition detailed. To ensure you are selecting the correct funding status for the PhD opportunity you wish to advertise, see the relevant section below:

Project Listings

When uploading a Project Listing in your dashboard, you will see this menu:

 

These options communicate to our visitors to FindAPhD what kind of funding option is available for your research opportunity.

You can choose one of the following:

  • Funded PhD Project (UK Students Only): This is only available to UK citizens.
  • Competition Funded Project (UK Students Only): This is in competition for funding with one or more of these projects. The project which receives the best applicant will be awarded the funding. The funding is only available to UK citizens.
  • Funded Project (European/UK Students Only): Funding for this project is available to citizens of several European countries (including the UK).
  • Competition Funded Project (European/UK Students Only): This is in competition for funding with one or more of these projects. The project which receives the best applicant will be awarded the funding. The funding is available to citizens of several European countries (including the UK).
  • Directly Funded Project (Students Worldwide): Applications for this project are welcome from suitably qualified candidates worldwide. Funding may only be available to a limited set of nationalities, and you should read the full department and project details for further information.
  • Competition Funded Project (Students Worldwide): This is in competition for funding with one or more of these projects. The project which receives the best applicant will be awarded the funding. Applications for this project are welcome from suitably qualified candidates worldwide.
  • Awaiting Funding Decision/Possible External Funding: This supervisor does not yet know if funding is available for this project, or they intend to apply for external funding once a suitable candidate is selected. Applications are welcome - please see project details for further information.
  • Self-Funded Student only: If you have the correct qualifications and access to your own funding, either from your home country or your own finances, your application to work with this supervisor will be considered.
