What course types can I list on FindAMasters?

Unsure which courses you can list on our site or what each Masters abbreviation means? Read on to find out!

Below is a list of the Masters course types that you can select when uploading a course to our website. Please click on the hyperlinks to find out more.

  • MA - Master of Arts
    A taught degree awarded for most Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences subjects such as Anthropology, Literature and Sociology. 
  • MSc Master of Science
    A taught degree awarded for most Science, Technology and Maths subjects such as Computer Science, Architecture and Chemistry.
  • PgCert and PgDip  - Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma
    A taught degree with Masters-level content but shorter and usually without a dissertation.
  • LLM - Master of Laws
    A specialised degree for Law subjects. An LLM, however, is considered a non-professional degree which means you don't need an LLM to practise law but it provides you with the skills and knowledge to be desirable to law firms.
  • MBA - Master of Business Administration
    An elite qualification for business professionals.
  • EMBA - Executive Master of Business Administration
    EMBA programmes are designed for very experienced applicants, often with senior management backgrounds.
  • IMBA - International Master of Business Administration
    IMBA programmes focus on the skills needed to succeed on the global stage.
  • PCGE - Postgraduate Certificate in Education
    A postgraduate degree to help students prepare for a career as a primary or secondary teacher.
  • MRes - Master of Research
    A research-based Masters degree which places emphasis on research expertise in ones choice of subject. Students will be required to complete some taught modules but they focus on practical topics like research techniques.
  • MPhil - Master of Philosophy
    A research based Masters composed entirely of an independent project.
  • Research Only
    If your Masters course is Research based similar to an MRes or MPhil, but does not fit under either of these categories, it could be listed as 'Research Only'.
  • Pre-Masters
    Pre-Masters courses are preparatory programmes that help students get ready for study at the postgraduate level. 
  • Pre-MBA
    Same as Pre-Masters but designed to help individuals, particularly those with limited management or business experience, prepare for a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree
  • Masters Module
    A Masters Module is a self-contained unit of study, typically worth a certain number of credits
  • Erasmus Mundus (EMMCs)
    These are prestigious international Masters, jointly designed and delivered by a group of higher education institutions.
  • Apprenticeship
    Masters degree apprenticeships allow you to combine on-the-job, practical training with academic study. They're a fantastic option for those looking to further their education and gain practical experience while working.
  • Other
    You might want to list a Masters Course that does not fit into any of the provided categories above. If this is the case, you can select 'other' when uploading the course and include further information about the type of course within the main description.
